Theme Settings

Although each theme is unique, their settings must be understandable and familiar to make them easy to use.

Images

Always include the recommended dimensions for the image in the image setting title.

Simplify the language

Avoid using the section title in setting names.

For example, if your theme setting is contained under the “Header” section then there is no need to mention that within the setting title, it is already implied.

DO - Logo image

DON'T - Header logo image

Avoid stating an obvious action in the setting description.

For example, if your theme setting is a switch/toggle there is no need to mention that in the description.

DO - Display the brand name in product titles.

DON'T - Toggle this setting and your product titles will start with brand names.

Use the same words that everyone else uses.

For example, if your theme setting affects how the headline works ensure you call it a “headline”.

FAMILIAR WORD - Choose a page layout for your headlines.

UNFAMILIAR WORD - Choose a page layout for your hero image.

Actions belong in descriptions, not titles.

For example, if your theme setting modifies feature's visibility mention this is the setting description.

TITLE - Brand page
DESCRIPTION - Display a link to your brand page in the navigation.

TITLE - Display a brand page
DESCRIPTION - Enabling this setting will add a navigation link to a page where all your shops’ brands are displayed.

Structure

The theme settings for all themes should follow the same structure. The settings are listed, from top to bottom, by popularity. This is why we list marketing features first since they are changed often by the shop, quick access is necessary.

Tip: You may find your theme has additional settings or lacks a setting listed below. That’s fine, just maintain the overall structure and section order in which these settings are presented if your theme uses it.

For an example, please see the following Lightspeed theme settings: Conform plus,  Absolut, Vice, Flat, Dresser
